"When you have livestock you have deadstock."
That's an old farmer's adage. Doesn't mean it doesn't hurt a heck of a lot though. This is the part of farming that we really hate. Sometimes they just don't make it despite our very best efforts. When that happens we honor our animals by utilizing every part that we can, so they can still bring purpose to their life. Beyond the enjoyment that having them frolic about brought our faRmily (us and you).
Veda. Dear sweet Veda. Saying goodbye to her was especially rough because she was the favorite of both Paul & Sherry. She was the first to greet us in the morning, mostly because she was pushy and liked snacks. But she was soulful. It was Veda who came from across the pasture to sit with me the first night I looked in on them when Paul was in the hospital. When my world fell apart, Veda was there to offer her love. Girlfriend had some bad feet issues though.
It's not humane to keep a sheep that hurts, so we said goodbye.
Her pelt is the perfect size for the back of sofa or the hearth. Measuring 34" from top to bottom and 17" at the widest point. It's super soft with our signature fine wool Targhee crimp in a beautiful french vanilla hue. We choose our abbatoir for their humane treatment of the live animals, not the quality of their skinning ability. As a result, sometimes they're rather unevenly shapen on the edges. Kindness is our top priority. These are of course, one of a kind and irreplaceable. No two are alike, as neither are their personalities.
Veda's pelt is the perfect size for a baby. The youngest Future Farmer of our family is modeling it today.
